Among some of these activities;
The New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman was at the Kuştepe Campus on May 31st, 2001 for a conference entitled
"The Meaning of Globalization for Turkey." The audience included 300 participants representing various business
sectors and the conference was aired live on TV channels.
On February 13th 2002, renowned philosopher and linguist Noam Chomsky held a conference entitled "September 11th and Communication" at the Dolapdere Campus. More than 400 representatives from academic, legal and media circles attended the conference where the Noam Chomsky documentary film was also shown.
On March 1st 2002, George Soros, founder of the Open Society Institute, held a conference entitled "Globalization" at the Dolapdere Campus. Attendants included representatives from NGOs from the finance sector and scientists. The conference attracted a considerable amount of public interest. On March 16, 2004, The President of World Bank Group James D. Wolfensohn paid a visit to İstanbul Bilgi University and held a conference at the Dolapdere Campus. The legendary name of advertising critique Bob Garfield, was at Bilgi! Columnist, critic, essayist and international speaker Bob Garfield got together with the students and advertising world on the 13th of April at İstanbul Bilgi University, Dolapdere Campus. Garfield, who writes advertising critiques weekly on Advertising Age journal in the United States, made a presentation on how advertising should and should not be with several advertising examples. The presentation was in English and open to public participation. French writer and thinker Jean Baudrillard gave a conference titled "The Evenementiel and the Virtual" at İstanbul Bilgi University on Aprill 30th, 2004. The conference focusing on how the event is gradually being replaced by an overflow of media-originated (virtual ) information, in parallel with a growing public interest and appetite for tragic events in the post -September 11 era". UN Secretary General's former Special Advisor on Cyprus, Mr. Alvaro de Soto was also a guest of Istanbul Bilgi University for a conference. There was a live coverage of the conference from CNN Turk, Manşet programme. The Body Shop founder, legendary businesswoman and activist Anita Roddick was at Bilgi for a conference entitled "Doing Business with The Body Shop Formula" The participants had the opportunity to listen to her formula of combining commercial success with business ethics and social campaigning at a panel discussion moderated by Mehmet Ali Birand live on CNN Turk Manset program.
Cinema at Bilgi includes examples from world cinema, retrospectives of renowned directors, country-specific showings, Turkish movies and documentaries. In addition, since the year 2000, the Dolapdere Campus has been hosting a number of film galas where the cast & crew have attended to answer questions.
Besides these activities, the İstanbul Bilgi University Student Council organizes festivals such as “May-Fest” in May and “Winter-Fest” in January every year. These festivals include sports, music, contests, dance shows, animations and famous guests.
