The hectic business life I happened to embark upon as
soon as I graduated from university and the frequent location changes
(domestic and abroad) I experienced prevented me from enrolling in
a master's degree for 5 years. The reason why I chose the e-MBA programme
in the first place was to deal with the difficulty I faced in adapting
my working hours to those of the programme. In addition, I dreaded
having to go to school and listen to the lecturers as they taught
their classes (that is, if I did not have to stay late at work and
finish some leftover business). Consequently, the most significant
opportunity that distance (asynchronous) education provides us is
the ability to develop and improve oneself and study by creating the
opportunity and time on individual terms. This constitutes the most
important attribute of the e-MBA programme.
Later on during my education, I realised that the curriculum for the
e-MBA programme is very professional and that e-MBA students have
equal access, if not more, to the opportunities provided by synchronous
education. To name a few, class summaries, PowerPoint slides, solved
example problems, case studies, relevant web site links and lecturer’s
own class notes (no need for you to take notes in class!) were among
some of the many opportunities. In addition, the willingness and warmth
with which the academic staff works at solving your problems, the
speed with which they answer your e-mails (1 day), their ability to
create the right studying environment when needed, all contributed
in giving us the necessary support. On top of all these, by studying
systematically, analysing many case studies in each class, choosing
the time and place of your education, your are able to graduate and
really ‘learn’, irrespective of your former education. |
