EMBA 503 Cyber Culture The course aims to explore the economic, social, political and legal issues underlying the cyber world. The increasing use of the Internet is continuing to alter the way we do many things. There are many virtual spaces with which people can interact, where businesses can market their products and governments provide services. However, what the Internet implies for society, its economics and politics is just being revealed. Therefore, this is a course of discussion and discovery. The course will give the students an overview of the issues that consumers, businesses and policy-makers are faced with in a rapidly changing environment of information technologies. The concepts of the digital revolution, the new economy and increasing returns will be covered in detail. The cost structure of information goods (increasing returns on the supply side) and consumption externalities (increasing returns on the demand side) will be supported by case studies drawn from the experience of network industries. Other topics that will be covered in the course will include e-commerce, electronic payment systems, intellectual property rights, cyber crime and e-government. |
